Developing a Quality Management System (ISO 9001/ Quality Plans/ TS16949 etc.)

Developing a Quality Management System (ISO 9001/ Quality Plans/ TS16949 etc.)

  • What is ISO 9001: 2008 vs a Quality Plan?

    Developing an Integrated Management System

Developing a HACCP Food Safety Management System HACCP and ISO 22000

Developing an Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)

Developing an OHS (Safety) Management System (AS/ NZS 4801 and ISO 18001)

Getting Product Certification for your product.

    • ISO 9001:2008, the International Quality Standard, continues to be the world’s most recognised quality framework. It is now in use across all industry types and has a proven reputation for helping organisations achieve consistency in business processes, reduce waste and increase customer confidence.
    • Often now just called a “Business Management System”; a Quality Management System provides a framework within which an organisation can keep track of and improve its performance and cut costs.
    • An ISO Quality Plan (or Quality Assurance Plan) is like a mini Quality management system which focuses on the product/ service delivery provision of a particular contract or project. For example, a Quality Plan is frequently requested by Councils and Government departments for sole contractors for whom a full ISO 9001 system would not be feasible or useful. It is also often a prerequisite to achieving government funding for particular projects. A Quality Plan usually forms the basis of an Engineering or Construction project plan.

  • What is ISO TS 16949?

    • ISO TS16949 is an internationally recognized standard applicable to organisations involved in the manufacture of cars, trucks, (light, medium or heavy), buses and motorcycles as well as the relevant Service and Parts Organisations.
    • The standard includes the process of making or fabricating:
      • Production materials,
      • Production or service parts,
      • Assemblies,
      • Heat treating, welding, painting, plating or other finishing services.
    • A TS auditor/ consultant will use the implementation and internal TS audit to measure the success of the company’s management system in terms of the following objectives:
      • continual improvement
      • defect prevention
      • reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain.
      • customer-specific requirements
    • The Process Approach
      • The ISO/ TS 16949 standard promotes adoption of what is termed the ‘process approach’ when developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of a quality management system to enhance customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements.
      • For applicable organisations to function effectively (i.e. the process approach,) they have to identify and manage numerous linked activities.
      • This requires activities to specifically manage resources to enable the transformation of inputs into outputs in order to be considered a process. Often the output from one process directly forms the input to the next.

  • What are the benefits of being a Quality certified company?

Many companies seek ISO 9001:2008 certification because their customers require it.
However there are many other proven practical benefits of a robust certified quality system:

    • Improves business performance and manages business risk
Certification to ISO 9001 has been shown to improve business outcomes to assist organisations in better managing risk.
    • Attracts investment, enhances brand reputation and removes barriers to trade
Certification to ISO 9001 can provide you with a competitive edge in the marketplace and raise the profile of your organisation brand. It can therefore be a useful promotional tool. It can also enable accessibility to new markets and customers by ensuring compliance to customer and international trade requirements.
    • Increased customer satisfaction and retention
Certification to ISO 9001 sends a clear message to all interested parties that this is a company committed to high standards, continual improvement and which is focused on customer satisfaction. A quality management system ensures that customer needs are considered and met.
    • Reduced costs, reduced waste and increased efficiency
Research suggests that companies who invest in a certified ISO 9001 quality management system can benefit from higher sales and greater profitability through more efficient operations. • What our consultants will do for you

    • ICS follow a series of clearly defined steps in developing or preparing you Management system for certification.
    • The steps typically include the following:
    • Introductory Visit/Preliminary Quote: First of all, one of our experienced consultants will conduct a brief initial overview of your system to identify both strengths and gaps and what is still required to be implemented or developed for the system to meet your needs or the requirements of the chosen Standard. A preliminary quote is produced based on this information.
    • Document Review: Upon commencement, your consultant will review all the relevant documentation (if any) and the system you have in place in more detail and prioritise the elements of your project according to risk and business efficiency considerations.
    • Schedule: Based on this review, the consultant will then schedule all work required and make a time to go through this with you. The initial proposal can then be fine-tuned based on the information gathered and/ or your unique needs.
    • System design: All relevant processes will be mapped out in discussion with Management and staff over a series of visits throughout the time period to identify areas which can be improved and to form the basis for the documentation required to be created.
    • Business Improvement Suggestions: We will make business improvement suggestions throughout the development process, based on our extensive experience across a broad range of industries.
    • Develop documentation: The consultant will assist you to develop any documentation that is required: Business plans and objectives, Manuals, Policies, process flow charts, procedures, forms etc
    • Resources: Our consultants may also offer resources to improve the control and management of your documented system if required e.g. easy-to-use non-conformance databases, meeting minute templates etc.
    • Training: Training will be provided as required to all staff to familiarize them with the system, its benefits, requirements and how to use it.
    • External audit preparation and follow up: The system and relevant staff are then prepared for the external audit if required. Our consultant can negotiate with the external body on your behalf and represent you on the day of the audit if desired. We will then document any follow up issues and work out resolution of these with you.
    • System Maintenance: We also provide ongoing support with:
      • Your internal and supplier audits and other system maintenance
      • Ensuring your management system continues to meet your expectations and the requirements of the relevant standard or code
      • Helping you develop and amend your system as your company’s needs change.
